Chapter 5
I was being followed.
It was a car you would normally see at a rental agency. A nondescript midsize sedan that was never as clean as the picture. Its color was black, one of the most common color cars on the road, chosen to blend in. Normally, I would have taken one road home when I was in town, then a country road that led to Linda and my home. Civilian life had dulled my OPSEC training, and I rarely deviated, taking the same two roads every time.
That made me an easy mark to trail.
But that evening, as the sun began to set, I had taken two different turns, once on third and another on pine, and saw the same black sedan a comfortable distance behind me every time. I had slowed down, going under the speed limit, yet they refused to pass.
Whoever it was that was trailing me was far too eager.
They should have broken off after the second turn.
I didn't know who was tailing me, but my instincts screamed a name deep inside.
